A friendly chat with AT&T
You: I was looking for the number to call so speak about products available in my neighborhood
JWHanna: No problem! May I ask which state you currently reside in so that I can provide you with a more specific Customer Service phone number?
You: well, DSL products. I was told I could get Pro DSL, but the website prevents me from selecting such.
JWHanna: May I ask which High Speed Internet packages are displayed as being available for you at this time?
You: just the basic and express
JWHanna: Thank you for the information. What that means is that currently those speed packages are currently available for you at this time, but an upgrade to the Pro or Elite package may become available in the near future!
JWHanna: Personally, I would recommend starting with the Express service package, which is an excellent choice, and then choose to upgrade once the Pro package becomes available!
You: well, a sales rep told me I could get DSL that was the same speed as my cable for half the price. I'm getting ~5mb download on cable currently. perhaps this was just a shady sales tactic :\
JWHanna: Not at all! It could be that the representative did not know the extent of your current cable speed, but I can assure you that AT&T's High Speed Internet speeds will remain constant, even during peak user hours!
JWHanna: This is because a normal cable service line is shared among the subscribed users in your residential area. During peak hours when almost all clients are online, the speed will dip. With our High Speed Internet connection feed, it comes from a direct terminal, and thereby maintains a constant high speed at all hours!
You: I've never seen degradation of speed with cable. But, now that you mention it, the last time I had DSL, my connection went from 1.5m/s to 768k/s in one week and never exceeded that. And I had solid 2 weeks of downtime every night from about 5p to midnight. All without warning or notification of system maintenance/upgrades.
JWHanna: That is unfortunate to hear, but we do have a solid maintenance system in place, as well as have a team of technical support specialists available to you 24/7 in case any connection speed problems arise!
You: ok. well I'll probably order anyway. i need to save some money. thanks for the sales pitch.
